Nel to Supply Alkaline Electrolyser Equipment for Samsung C&T's Nuclear Pink Hydrogen Project
Key Ideas
  • Nel secures a repeat order to supply 10MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment to Samsung C&T for around €5m ($5.2m).
  • Samsung C&T is setting up a demonstration plant in South Korea to validate the commercial model for nuclear pink hydrogen production.
  • The aim of the plant is to produce hydrogen from excess nuclear power generation, improving overall energy efficiency by utilizing oversupply periods.
  • Nel confirms it as a firm purchase order for alkaline stacks and balance-of-stacks, with electrodes to be produced in Norway.
Nel, a leading electrolyser manufacturer, has secured a significant contract to supply 10MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment to Samsung C&T Corporation for approximately €5m ($5.2m). This order follows a previous agreement signed in January 2024 for an off-grid project using solar power in South Korea. The new project aims to establish a demonstration plant for producing nuclear pink hydrogen. The purpose of the plant is to utilize excess nuclear power generation to create hydrogen during periods of oversupply, thereby enhancing overall energy efficiency. Nel has confirmed that this deal involves delivering alkaline stacks and balance-of-stacks components, with the electrodes being manufactured at their facility in Herøya, Norway. This partnership signifies a step towards advancing renewable energy technologies and fostering energy sustainability.
