SEFE and Höegh Evi Partner to Develop Clean Hydrogen Supply Chains for Germany and Europe
Key Ideas
  • SEFE and Höegh Evi signed an MoU to jointly develop international supply chains for clean hydrogen to be delivered to Germany and other European locations.
  • The partnership aims to implement supply chains for clean hydrogen through sourcing ammonia, transportation by ship, and conversion to hydrogen for delivery via the German hydrogen core grid.
  • SEFE will manage upstream supply portfolio and downstream supply chain, while Höegh Evi will provide midstream infrastructure connecting Germany with international hydrogen markets.
  • Höegh Evi's floating ammonia-to-hydrogen terminals will offer dispatchable and baseload-ready clean hydrogen for industrial customers supporting decarbonisation efforts.
SEFE and marine infrastructure provider Höegh Evi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop international supply chains for clean hydrogen to be supplied to Germany and other European locations. The agreement aims to enable customer decarbonisation in support of Germany's energy transition goals by establishing supply chains for clean hydrogen sourced as ammonia, transported by ship, and converted into hydrogen at floating import terminals. SEFE will be responsible for managing the upstream supply portfolio and downstream supply chain, including global sourcing of clean molecules, aggregation of hydrogen demand, and investment in the German hydrogen core grid. On the other hand, Höegh Evi will provide midstream infrastructure to connect Germany with international hydrogen markets, facilitating the transportation of ammonia by ship and operation of floating ammonia-to-hydrogen terminals. These terminals will play a crucial role in supplying dispatchable and baseload-ready clean hydrogen for industrial customers through the innovative ammonia-to-hydrogen cracker technology. The joint effort aims to address sustainability and energy transition challenges, identifying possible locations for floating ammonia-to-hydrogen terminals along Germany's coasts and in other potential European sites.
