BPCL, in partnership with aerospace companies, is embarking on a groundbreaking project to develop India's inaugural hydrogen-powered Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft environment. The collaboration involves a quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BluJ Aerospace, ANERT, the government of Kerala, and Cochin International Airport (CIAL) to establish hydrogen refueling stations in Kochi and Trivandrum. This initiative will enable the operation of VTOL aircraft, ushering in a new era of aviation technology. The project also includes research and development efforts to design an Indigenous Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Hydrogen Fuel Cell with high power density, crucial for facilitating vertical lift-off. This endeavor aligns with India's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2070. By utilizing green hydrogen-powered VTOL aircraft, the project aims to transform urban and regional air mobility by improving speed, reducing noise levels, enhancing efficiency, and notably lowering carbon emissions.
