EET Excited for UK Government Support of HyNet Decarbonisation Cluster
Key Ideas
  • Essar Energy Transition (EET) praises UK government's backing of HyNet for industrial decarbonisation.
  • EET Hydrogen's HPP1 project in the North West to produce 350 MW hydrogen from 2028.
  • EET's Stanlow site to house UK's first large-scale low carbon hydrogen hub, aiming to capture 2.5 million tonnes of carbon annually.
  • Hydrogen to be utilized by local refineries and manufacturers, leading to low carbon operations in the region.
Essar Energy Transition (EET) expressed delight over the UK government's recent endorsement of the HyNet, a key cluster for industrial decarbonisation. At the core of HyNet is EET Hydrogen's HPP1 project, set to generate 350 MW of hydrogen starting in 2028. EET is also working on establishing a significant low carbon hydrogen production hub at its Stanlow facility, with a total capacity of 1,350 MW and a carbon capture potential of 2.5 million tonnes annually. This move is projected to have a substantial environmental impact, equivalent to removing 1.1 million cars from the roads. The hydrogen produced will be consumed locally by EET Fuels' Stanlow refinery and various major manufacturers like Encirc, Pilkington, and Tata Chemicals, leading to the establishment of the first low carbon refining operations, glass, and chemicals manufacturing facilities globally. Tony Fountain, the Managing Partner of EET, highlighted the importance of government support for their future plans and mentioned the intention to commence construction in 2025. Joe Seifert, CEO of EET Hydrogen, emphasized the significance of the government's decision, marking a pivotal moment for the UK's hydrogen industry.
