Group Surya's subsidiary, Surya International, has emerged victorious in securing an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package for the development of a groundbreaking 200 kW Solar-Hydrogen Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Microgrid in Chushul, Ladakh. This commendable feat comes as NTPC Renewable Energy Limited awarded the project to the Odisha-based company with the aim of utilizing green hydrogen for uninterrupted, round-the-clock power supply in off-grid defense locations, particularly in extreme climatic conditions. The project, with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh laying the foundation stone remotely, is a collaborative effort between NTPC, the Indian Army, and Group Surya to implement a solar hydrogen-based microgrid system that ensures independent energy supply, detached from traditional power sources. With an investment of ₹102 crore, the system is designed to deliver 200 kW of continuous power year-round, demonstrating resilience to operate in temperatures as low as -30°C and at an altitude of 4,400 meters. Leveraging Ladakh's high solar irradiance, the project not only bolsters energy security but also diminishes logistical fuel dependencies, thereby fortifying India's defense infrastructure. Positioned near the historic Battle of Rezang La, where the 13th Kumaon Regiment exhibited valor in 1962, this initiative signifies a strategic move towards sustainable development and technological advancement in renewable energy deployment. Surya International's track record in hydrogen projects, including endeavors in Bangalore and Himachal Pradesh, further validates their capability in pioneering innovative solutions. Projects like the Hydrogen Mobility Station in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, and the Alkaline Hydrogen Electrolyzer Design & Manufacturing in Bangalore highlight their commitment to sustainable technological advancements in partnership with esteemed organizations. The successful execution of the Solar-Hydrogen Microgrid Project in Ladakh not only showcases technological prowess but also symbolizes a significant step towards a greener, more secure future for India's critical defense installations.
