Hyundai Motor India Ltd has announced a significant partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd to explore the viability of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for mass adoption in India. The collaboration involves real-world testing of a Hyundai NEXO Hydrogen FCEV on Indian roads over a two-year period covering approximately 40,000 km. This evaluation will include assessing the vehicle's longevity, operational reliability, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), providing crucial insights into the economic and environmental advantages of hydrogen-powered vehicles for the Indian market. The alliance aims to combine Hyundai's world-class hydrogen fuel cell technology with Indian expertise to unlock the potential of Green Hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. Both companies expressed confidence that this collaboration will play a fundamental role in showcasing hydrogen as a viable alternative fuel for the future. Indian Oil Corporation sees hydrogen fuel as crucial to India's clean energy goals, with fuel cell technology offering significant contributions to achieving net carbon neutrality. The partnership with Hyundai Motor India will facilitate in-depth studies on fuel cell technology, moving towards establishing a greener mobility ecosystem in the country. Additionally, Hyundai is working with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to establish a 'Hydrogen Innovation Centre' that will provide a platform for startups and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to test their components and enhance quality in the hydrogen mobility sector.
