Hyundai Motor Group's executive chair, Euisun Chung, has revealed discussions about potential collaboration with Toyota in the realm of hydrogen-powered mobility. The two automakers are exploring avenues for working together on hydrogen-related projects. This revelation came following Chung's meeting with Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda at the 2024 World Rally Championship held at Toyota Stadium in Japan. The Hyundai team driver, Thierry Neuville, achieved victory at the championship, with Chung expressing pride in the team's performance. Hyundai has a history of involvement in hydrogen research, dating back to the establishment of a dedicated organization in 1998. The company introduced its first hydrogen vehicle in 2000 in partnership with US fuel cell company UTC Power. Currently, Hyundai offers the Nexo hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) and has unveiled a new FCEV concept model called the Initium. The Nexo competes in the market with Toyota's Mirai FECV model. Chung's positive outlook on the collaboration with Toyota and his praise for the Hyundai team's success indicate a strong drive within the company to advance in the field of car innovation and technology with passion and excellence.
