Hyundai Motor is all set to establish a dedicated Hydrogen Innovation Centre in Chennai, India, with an investment of Rs 180 crore. The facility will be located at the Thaiyur campus of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and will focus on research in hydrogen technology. The foundation stone for the centre was laid by Chief Minister M K Stalin during the Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave. The partnership between Hyundai Motor India Ltd., Guidance Tamil Nadu, and IIT Madras aims to boost the development and adoption of hydrogen ecosystem in the country. The centre, which is expected to become operational by 2026, will work on electrolyser development, local manufacturing, fuel cell testing, and pilot demonstrators.
