Hyundai Motor is all set to establish a dedicated Hydrogen Innovation Centre in Chennai, India, with an investment of Rs 180 crore. The facility will be located at the Thaiyur campus of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and will focus on research in hydrogen technology. The foundation stone for the centre was laid by Chief Minister M K Stalin during the Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave. The partnership between Hyundai Motor India Ltd., Guidance Tamil Nadu, and IIT Madras aims to boost the development and adoption of hydrogen ecosystem in the country. The centre, which is expected to become operational by 2026, will work on electrolyser development, local manufacturing, fuel cell testing, and pilot demonstrators. The initiative aligns with Hyundai's goal of strengthening Tamil Nadu as an automotive innovation hub and promoting the use of alternate fuels for sustainability. Director of IIT Madras, Professor V Kamakoti, expressed excitement about the partnership and highlighted the centre's role in fostering breakthrough innovations in hydrogen mobility. Hyundai Motor India Ltd's Whole-time Director, Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, emphasized the commitment to building a sustainable ecosystem for the transition towards alternate fuels, expressing hope that the Hydrogen Innovation Centre will accelerate hydrogen mobility adoption in Tamil Nadu.
