Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, announced India's accelerated progress towards achieving 20% ethanol blending by 2025, surpassing the initial 2030 target. Puri highlighted at a summit in New Delhi that this initiative has already saved ₹91,000 crore on fossil fuel imports. Addressing concerns about vehicle compatibility, Puri mentioned that studies have demonstrated minimal wear and tear with 20% ethanol blending, and any necessary adjustments can be made affordable through kits. The government has advanced the 20% blending target to the Ethanol Supply Year 2025-26, citing the success of the Ethanol Blended Programme. Puri also emphasized the importance of green hydrogen as the 'fuel of the future,' stressing the need to reduce costs. He noted India's emerging role as a key player in electrolyser manufacturing, with expectations of significant advancements in the sector by 2030. Additionally, Puri discussed India's vast potential for offshore oil exploration, highlighting the government's decision to open up 1 million square kilometers of previously restricted areas for exploration. Policy reforms, backed by oil majors, are set to be presented in Parliament to further enhance the sector's growth.
