Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India's ambitious renewable energy goals during the India Energy Week 2025 in Delhi. India has significantly increased its solar energy generation capacity and aims to become the third largest solar power generating nation. Modi announced targets to add 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, achieve net-zero carbon emissions for Indian Railways, and produce five million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by the same year. The country has already achieved a 19% ethanol blending rate and aims to reach 20% by October 2025. Modi emphasized the importance of hydrocarbons, refining capacity expansion, and developing battery and storage infrastructure for electric vehicles. Key pillars of India's energy strategy include resource harnessing, innovation, economic strength, strategic geography, and global sustainability commitment. The government is offering incentives for green energy innovation and supporting a shift towards a non-lithium battery ecosystem. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the continued relevance of traditional energy sources in India's energy mix.
