India's Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, highlighted the country's remarkable progress in renewable energy, with capacity reaching 195 GW from 76 GW in 2014. Speaking at the inauguration of Ohmium's electrolyser manufacturing facility in Karnataka, Joshi emphasized India's potential to drive global green energy growth. The facility is set to deliver 2GW of tested systems, contributing to the nation's renewable energy efforts.
Joshi stressed that modern facilities like Ohmium's will enhance India's energy security by producing green hydrogen, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and integrating solar and wind energy. He linked these developments to the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to establish India as a global hub for hydrogen production and export.
The minister highlighted government incentives like waivers on ISTS charges for green hydrogen production plants until 2030, projecting an installed electrolyser capacity of 60-100 GW by 2030. Under the SIGHT programme, tenders for 4.12 lakh tonne per annum have been awarded to 10 companies, emphasizing the need for speed and scale in achieving India's renewable energy goals. The event was attended by prominent officials, showcasing strong governmental support for the green energy revolution.
