The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has disclosed the outcomes of its auction under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Program, awarding a total annual green hydrogen production capacity of 450,000 metric tons (MT). This initiative, under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, allotted an incentive of Rs. 2,238.59 crore to selected bidders. Companies like Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Waaree Energies, and Oriana Power were awarded capacities under this program. Reliance Industries, a leading conglomerate in India, through its subsidiary Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals, received incentives for a 49,000 MT annual production capacity. Larsen & Toubro's subsidiary, L&T Energy Green Tech, was awarded for a 90,000 MT annual capacity. Waaree Energies, known for its solar PV modules, and Oriana Power, specializing in solar energy solutions, also secured incentives for 90,000 MT and 10,000 MT annual capacities, respectively. The projects are set to be completed within 36 months to drive down production costs and propel green hydrogen technology in India. This move aligns with India's target to achieve net carbon zero by 2035. Stock prices of the mentioned companies reacted positively to the green hydrogen incentives, reflecting investor confidence in the potential of these initiatives to drive growth and sustainability in the energy sector.
