Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat, announced plans to kickstart the production of Green Hydrogen by the end of August. This initiative is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission and will also encompass the development of an ecosystem for green ammonia and methanol. The port has allocated space for Giga-scale plants and will establish a 1-megawatt green hydrogen demonstration plant. Through collaborations with partners like L&T and NTPC, Kandla aims to make significant strides in renewable energy. The port will introduce eleven hydrogen-powered buses, showcasing its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with international maritime standards. Additionally, Kandla aspires to become a key Methanol Bunker Point in the Rotterdam-Singapore corridor, positioning itself as a pioneer in green shipping corridors in India. Singh highlighted the port's operational achievements, exceeding its cargo-handling target for the financial year and achieving substantial year-on-year growth. The success was attributed to leveraging existing infrastructure efficiently, without the need for additional capacity expansion. The focus now lies on optimizing the remaining infrastructure capacity by implementing innovative solutions like 'berthing on arrival' facilities for vessels.
