The state government of Karnataka, India, has taken a significant step towards achieving net zero emissions and bolstering the manufacturing sector by introducing the Clean Mobility Policy 2025-30. The policy, effective from February 11, 2025, aims to attract investments of Rs 50,000 crore and create one lakh new jobs in the clean mobility sector. It includes incentives such as subsidies on total invested capital expenditure and the establishment of three mobility clusters to foster innovation and manufacturing. The policy covers all green energy industries, not just electric vehicles, encompassing EVs, green hydrogen, ammonia, and more. The policy also addresses the importance of passing subsidies to consumers when offering capital and performance incentives to industries and manufacturers. It broadens its scope to include charging infrastructure, hydrogen infrastructure, battery-swapping networks, and fueling stations, emphasizing the development of a clean energy network. Karnataka, known for its significant EV adoption, aims to install 2,600 new charging stations through public-private partnerships. This comprehensive policy update builds upon previous EV policies in Karnataka and aims to create a conducive environment for the growth of green energy industries in the state. By incorporating all components of the product manufacturing and supply chain, the policy sets a solid foundation for a sustainable and thriving clean mobility sector in Karnataka.
