India recently inaugurated its first green hydrogen fueling station in Leh, Ladakh, a high-altitude region known for extreme weather conditions. Despite the challenges, the project was completed in two years, highlighting India's proficiency in green infrastructure. With a daily capacity of 80 kg of green hydrogen, the station aims to support emission-free public transportation in Ladakh, starting with five hydrogen-powered fuel cell buses. This initiative is part of India's National Hydrogen Energy Mission, focusing on decarbonising the transport and industrial sectors. The station is seen as a crucial step towards introducing sustainable transport in ecologically sensitive regions like Ladakh. Amara Raja Infra and NTPC Ltd, collaborating on the project, view this as a pilot for a broader national transition towards hydrogen mobility solutions. The success of the Leh station is expected to pave the way for similar initiatives across India, driving the adoption of green hydrogen infrastructure and supporting the country's ambitious hydrogen roadmap.
