Sembcorp Industries and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) have announced a 50:50 joint venture to drive the development of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects throughout India. The partnership between Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited and BPCL is strategically focused on promoting India's energy transition and development objectives. The collaboration will specifically concentrate on the production, operation, and commercialization of renewable energy and green hydrogen, alongside exploring opportunities in green ammonia production, emissions reduction for port operations, and other emerging green fuel technologies. Vipul Tuli, representing Sembcorp, highlighted the JV's dedication to supporting renewable energy and green hydrogen advancement in India, aiming to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors. Sembcorp, with its significant renewable assets in India, is well-equipped to facilitate large-scale, cost-effective green hydrogen production. The joint agreement is anticipated to have no significant impact on Sembcorp's financials through 2025. BPCL's Chairman and Managing Director, G Krishnakumar, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership's potential to drive innovation-led renewable energy and green hydrogen solutions in alignment with India's climate goals. BPCL is aiming to achieve a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio and transition to a net zero energy company by 2040. Both companies share a strong commitment to sustainability and reducing emissions, with a focus on creating a sustainable future for India's energy landscape.
