At the Global Investors' Meet (GIM-25) in Bengaluru, Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, discussed the pressing issue of global inequality and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on global supply chains. He emphasized the importance of understanding these disparities to consider restructuring global systems effectively. Tharoor also shed light on India's challenges such as poverty and high unemployment rates, calling for a radical transformation of the education system to prepare youth for the evolving job market affected by AI and automation. Former Greek Prime Minister George A Papandreou echoed Tharoor's sentiments on democracy, stressing the significance of transparency and accountability in governance. On the same platform, Karnataka's Minister for Energy, K.J. George, introduced the state's ambitious Clean Mobility Policy for 2025-30. The policy aims to position Karnataka as a national leader in the Electric Vehicle (EV) and hydrogen vehicle manufacturing sectors. It envisions attracting substantial investments totaling Rs 50,000 crore over the next five years, with a focus on creating 1 lakh jobs. The policy emphasizes developing infrastructure for clean mobility, including charging stations, hydrogen hubs, and transitioning existing vehicles to electric or hydrogen-powered alternatives. With Karnataka already having 2.5 lakh registered EVs and ranking third in the country for electric vehicle adoption, the state is poised to further accelerate EV and hydrogen vehicle uptake with the new policy.
