Abu Dhabi-based Fertiglobe, a key player in nitrogen fertilizer production in the MENA region, has unveiled ambitious plans for clean hydrogen and ammonia projects. The company anticipates final investment decisions (FID) for two major projects in the US and Egypt by 2025. The US project, a collaboration with ADNOC and ExxonMobil in Baytown, Texas, targets the production of low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia, with ADNOC holding a 35 percent equity stake. The Egypt Green Hydrogen project, expected to reach FID in the first half of 2025, will feature a 100 MW electrolyser facility to produce renewable hydrogen for ammonia production.
The company has also initiated the construction of a low-carbon ammonia project in the UAE, aiming for operations to commence in 2027. A subsequent phase of this project plans to further reduce carbon intensity by capturing and sequestering CO2 emissions.
