BEEAH has announced groundbreaking plans for the Middle East's first waste-to-hydrogen plant, to be situated in Al Sajaa, Sharjah, as part of the UAE's strategic vision for a sustainable and diversified energy sector. The project, a collaboration between BEEAH, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), Chinook Hydrogen, and Air Water, aims to revolutionize energy production by converting organic-based materials, including Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), into green hydrogen through innovative gasification and refinement technologies. Expected to commence operations in the second quarter of 2027, the plant will initially produce 7 tonnes of green hydrogen daily, significantly contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste diversion efforts. Complementing the production of green hydrogen, the plant will also yield valuable by-products that can support alternative fuel production and industrial applications. Aligned with the UAE's ambitious National Hydrogen Strategy, the project marks a crucial step towards achieving the country's net-zero goals and becoming a leading player in the global hydrogen market by 2031. The technology's successful demonstration in the UK and at COP28 UAE has garnered international recognition, highlighting its potential to address emissions challenges and drive sustainable energy solutions. The strategic partnership between BEEAH, Chinook Hydrogen, and Air Water underscores a commitment to innovation, environmental stewardship, and energy leadership, positioning the UAE as a key player in the hydrogen economy.
