China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) hosted a groundbreaking event titled 'Hydrogen Powering Climate Action: Towards A Clean Energy Future with Net-Zero Emissions' at the China Pavilion during COP29. This marked the first hydrogen-themed event jointly organized by a Chinese company at the conference. The event, co-hosted by Sinopec, International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA), and Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (FECO), showcased two important reports focusing on China's advancements in hydrogen energy innovation and practices. During the event, reports on the implementation of the COP28 International Cooperation Initiative and the IHFCA Green Hydrogen Economy were released, emphasizing China's commitment to green and low-carbon development, safe hydrogen energy practices, and international cooperation. Sinopec, known for its leadership in green hydrogen, geothermal, and CCUS technologies, highlighted the significance of international technological exchanges and cooperation in the hydrogen industry. Ma Yongsheng, chairman of Sinopec, delivered a keynote speech stressing the need for collective efforts to build a robust hydrogen industry ecosystem and transition towards a 'hydrogen era' in the energy sector. He underlined the importance of international cooperation, openness, innovation, and seamless trade across the hydrogen industry value chain. Sinopec is actively working towards establishing a complete hydrogen industry chain encompassing production, storage, transportation, utilization, and research. The company has begun operations on China's first 20,000-ton photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration project and is planning a significant wind and green hydrogen integration project. Additionally, Sinopec operates a substantial number of hydrogen refueling stations, contributing significantly to China's hydrogen refueling volume. Overall, Sinopec's dedication to green hydrogen and sustainable practices, as showcased at COP29, reflects a positive step towards addressing climate challenges and fostering a greener future.
