Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has made significant strides in sustainable energy with its Green Hydrogen project, producing 90 tonnes of green hydrogen and over one gigawatt hour of green energy, resulting in a reduction of 450 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The project, a collaboration between DEWA, Expo 2020 Dubai, and Siemens Energy, is pioneering green hydrogen production in the Middle East and North Africa region. Through the utilization of solar energy, this innovative project has demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of green hydrogen in generating electricity, particularly through a hydrogen gas motor during nighttime operations. DEWA's initiative aligns with the UAE's vision for acquiring a substantial market share in low-carbon hydrogen and supports national strategies for clean energy production and achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050. By implementing the Green Hydrogen project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, DEWA is not only contributing to the park's immense production capacity but also setting a benchmark for competitive prices in green hydrogen production. The success of this project signifies Dubai's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and reinforces its position as a global leader in renewable energy technology.
