The European Commission is set to provide Argentina with €200m in funding to boost its green hydrogen industry as part of the EU's Global Gateway Investment Agenda. Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson expressed the importance of renewable hydrogen and the EU's interest in the sector during an EU-Argentina energy dialogue. The EU and Argentina had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation, with the EU committing to support Argentina's efforts in green energy and climate solutions. The EU's initiative involves replicating a successful funding scheme in Chile to facilitate green hydrogen production. Simson highlighted Argentina's potential to excel in the green energy sector and mentioned the EU's increasing demand for renewable hydrogen in the coming years. Europe aims to import 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030, supplementing domestic production. To achieve this, the EU is forging partnerships with regions projected to have significant hydrogen production capabilities. The move signifies the EU's strategic shift towards green hydrogen imports to meet its sustainable energy goals.
