Volvo Trucks has introduced the new Volvo VNR truck model, designed specifically for the North American regional haul market. This launch follows the successful introduction of the long haul VNL model earlier in 2024. The Volvo VNR boasts a significant 90% redesign compared to its predecessor, focusing on enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 7.5%. The truck incorporates features like enhanced aerodynamics, powertrain innovations, and Eco-roll technology to optimize energy savings. Notably, the VNR is equipped with the next-generation D13 VGT engine, contributing to a 7.5% improvement in fuel efficiency. Customers can choose from a range of engine options with varying horsepower and torque ratings, including the D13 Turbo Compound engine. Safety is a key highlight of the VNR, with Volvo Active Driver Assist, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and integrated cab-mounted side curtain airbags. The truck's design also includes advanced safety and visibility features suitable for urban environments with high pedestrian traffic. Additionally, the VNR's platform is future-proofed for upcoming propulsion technologies such as battery-electric, fuel cell, and internal combustion engines running on renewable fuels, including hydrogen. The manufacturing of the Volvo VNR will take place at the Volvo Trucks New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Va., with sales scheduled to commence soon, offering multiple configurations to cater to both regional and long-haul transportation needs.
