Key Ideas
  • Minister Esmat highlighted the need to revise Egypt's energy strategy to include green hydrogen due to global shifts and the exclusion of coal from the energy mix.
  • Significant progress is noted in renewable energy projects with substantial capacities in wind and solar power, along with a focus on battery storage systems to stabilize the national grid.
  • Measures to encourage private sector investments in renewable energy include land allocation, environmental impact assessments, and economic incentives such as reduced customs duties and VAT rates.
  • Incentive measures like granting land for projects, reducing customs duties, and lowering VAT rates aim to enhance the economic feasibility of renewable energy projects in Egypt.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting in New Alamein City to discuss Egypt's energy strategy up to 2040. Minister Esmat stressed the importance of revising the strategy to incorporate green hydrogen, given changes in the energy sector and the exclusion of coal from the energy mix. The meeting highlighted progress in renewable energy projects, including wind and solar power capacities, as well as the implementation of battery storage systems. Ongoing coordination aims to strengthen the national grid and connect renewable energy projects by 2025. The government is working to secure funding for grid-strengthening projects and encourage private sector investments in renewable energy, including green hydrogen production. Incentive measures such as land allocation, reduced customs duties, and lowered VAT rates are being implemented to boost the economic feasibility of these projects.
