India has agreed to ramp up its purchases of gas and oil from the US to bolster energy security, in the midst of President Trump's trade strategy. The move aims to position the US as a primary supplier of crude oil, petroleum products, and LNG to India, in line with the countries' economic priorities. While India plans to increase its natural gas consumption in the energy mix, it faces a challenge as it pursues green hydrogen initiatives alongside hydrocarbon commitments. Despite the benefits of LNG over coal and oil in terms of emissions, the country acknowledges the need to address methane leaks and transition towards cleaner energy sources. The Minister of Petroleum and National Gas highlighted India's ambition to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070, emphasizing the growing role of green hydrogen in the energy landscape. India Energy Week 2025 served as a platform for policymakers, energy leaders, and innovators to discuss advancements in the sector and witness key agreements, particularly in carbon capture and storage. Notable among these was the long-term LNG agreement between IOCL and ADNOC, signaling a significant step towards meeting India's energy demands while simultaneously exploring sustainable energy solutions.
