Technip Energies Awarded EPsCm Contracts by Galp for Biofuels and Green Hydrogen Units in Portugal
Key Ideas
  • Technip Energies awarded Engineering, Procurement Services, and Construction Management contracts by Galp for an advanced biofuels unit and a green hydrogen unit in Portugal.
  • The projects aim to reduce the carbon footprint of the Sines refinery, with the biofuels unit set to avoid 800 ktpa of greenhouse gas emissions and the green hydrogen unit to replace 20% of existing grey hydrogen consumption, leading to a reduction of 110 ktpa of emissions.
  • The investment in both units, totaling €650 million, will transform the Sines refinery into a key low-carbon platform in Portugal, contributing to the country's energy transition.
  • Technip Energies' Chief Operating Officer praised Galp's commitment to decarbonization and highlighted the company's role in enabling the energy industry's decarbonization through collaboration, innovation, and technology integration.
Technip Energies has secured Engineering, Procurement Services, and Construction Management (EPsCm) contracts from Galp for the development of an advanced biofuels unit and a green hydrogen unit at the Sines refinery in Portugal. The Advanced Biofuels Unit, a collaboration between Galp and Mitsui, will produce renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, contributing to the avoidance of around 800 ktpa of greenhouse gas emissions. Technip Energies, in partnership with Technoedif Engenharia, will oversee the EPsCm project for this unit. On the other hand, the Green Hydrogen Unit will consist of a 100 MW electrolysis plant producing up to 15 ktpa of renewable hydrogen, helping to replace 20% of the refinery's grey hydrogen consumption and reducing emissions by approximately 110 ktpa. The combined investment in these units amounts to €650 million, positioning the Sines refinery as a significant low-carbon facility in Portugal. Marco Villa, Technip Energies' COO, commended Galp's commitment to transforming the refining industry and expressed delight in being selected as the execution partner for both projects. This initiative underscores Technip Energies' role in facilitating the energy industry's decarbonization through active collaboration, innovation, and technology integration. With operations in 35 countries and a workforce of 15,000 employees, Technip Energies aims to accelerate the energy transition by delivering innovative projects and pushing boundaries for a sustainable future.
