British Gas is conducting a pilot program in Birmingham, using a hydrogen-powered van to reduce carbon emissions and achieve their Net Zero target by 2040. Teaming up with Ryze Power, a provider of clean hydrogen and alternative fuels, British Gas aims to evaluate the viability of hydrogen as a transportation fuel. The Vauxhall Vivaro van is currently undergoing a two-month trial, with a British Gas engineer utilizing Ryze's green hydrogen at a refueling station in Tyseley. This initiative is part of Centrica's broader strategy to achieve a Net Zero fleet by 2030. The hydrogen vans emit only water vapor and require smaller batteries compared to electric vehicles, reducing the demand for precious metals.
