Ceres and Shell Collaborate on Next-Generation Green Hydrogen Technology
Key Ideas
  • Ceres and Shell sign a contract for designing a 10MW pressurised solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) module for green hydrogen production.
  • The collaboration aims to develop pathways for commercializing SOEC technology in large-scale industrial applications like synthetic fuels and green steel.
  • Phil Caldwell, Ceres' Chief Executive, expresses the value of the partnership with Shell in advancing SOEC technology for green hydrogen and synthetic fuels markets.
  • Ceres' commitment to continuous innovation ensures their SOEC technology remains at the industry forefront in terms of simplicity, efficiency, and performance.
Ceres, based in Horsham, England, has secured an additional contract for the second phase of collaboration with Shell to work on designing a solid oxide electrolyser (SOEC) module. This module, with a capacity of 10MW, is intended for generating green hydrogen in large-scale industrial applications like synthetic fuels, ammonia, and green steel. The project builds upon the data gathered from the initial demonstration of Ceres' technology at Shell's R&D facility in Bangalore, India. The goal of the collaboration is to pave the way for the commercialization of SOEC technology, aligning with the EU's SOE 2030 technology targets. Phil Caldwell, the Chief Executive of Ceres, spoke positively about the ongoing partnership with Shell, highlighting how it enables Ceres to meet the increasing demand for green hydrogen and synthetic fuels. He emphasized that Ceres' technology, known for its efficiency and performance, is continuously evolving through innovation to maintain its leading position in the industry. This collaboration reflects a strategic effort to advance the adoption of green hydrogen technology in various industrial sectors, aiming to contribute to a more sustainable future.
