The Queensland Government has announced a $15 million investment in a new skills and training facility, the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre, in Townsville. This initiative aims to enhance the region's green hydrogen workforce and support job creation in line with the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan and the Clean Energy Workforce Roadmap. The CEO of PICAC, Shayne La Combre, highlighted the importance of the facility in providing high-quality training locally and customizing programs to meet industry demands. The center will offer a range of training programs, from pre-apprenticeship courses to advanced qualifications, including courses on working safely with hydrogen and other renewable gases. Queensland's Member for Townsville, Scott Stewart, emphasized the significance of investments like the new training center in preparing local workers for job opportunities in green hydrogen and critical minerals mining projects. The facility, the first of its kind in regional Queensland, will play a vital role in upskilling the current workforce and ensuring that it remains competitive and aligned with industry advancements.
