During the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Australia's Fortescue has agreed to invest in green hydrogen alternative energy in Bintulu, Sarawak. Anwar, also the finance minister, guaranteed incentives and support to make Bintulu a hub for green hydrogen. The Sarawak government has approved the agreement. Anwar's discussions with Fortescue took place on the sidelines of WEF 2025, where he led a Malaysian delegation in face-to-face meetings with corporate leaders from various companies such as AstraZeneca, DP World, Medtronics, Nestlé, and Google. The Malaysian government also extended support to DP World for their projects in Sepanggar, Sabah. Google's initiatives in Selangor for data centers were highlighted, focusing on benefiting Peninsular Malaysia.
