Key Ideas
  • Hybitat Srl, a unit of Italy-based SIT Group, introduced a novel hydrogen generation and storage system for residential and commercial use.
  • The system utilizes excess solar power to produce hydrogen through an electrolyzer and features a storage unit with 3 kg of hydrogen capacity and 100 kWh of energy capacity.
  • It has already made its first sale and will be installed in a private residence in early 2025, showcasing the practical application of the technology.
  • The products come in various sizes, catering to individual housing units, energy communities, low-energy businesses, and larger buildings like apartment complexes.
Italian startup Hybitat Srl, a subsidiary of the Italian energy company SIT Group, has developed an innovative hydrogen production and storage system designed for long-term storage of surplus solar power in residential and commercial settings. The system, which includes an electrolyzer, fuel cell, and storage unit with 3 kg of hydrogen capacity and 100 kWh of energy capacity, aims to promote sustainable energy solutions. By utilizing excess solar energy, the system can convert it into hydrogen for later use, offering a reliable and eco-friendly energy storage solution. The first system sale of 200 kWh capacity has already been concluded, with plans for installation in a private residence in 2025. The main unit of the system houses various components like a DC/DC converter, a DC/AC inverter, an electrolyzer, and a fuel cell, while the storage unit can be deployed indoors or outdoors. Different versions of the product cater to individual housing units, energy communities, low-energy businesses, and larger buildings. The technology is built to meet European standards for machinery directives, ensuring its conformity and reliability in the energy sector.
