Wood to Lead FEED Phase for Netherlands Hydrogen Project
Key Ideas
  • Wood, in collaboration with Vattenfall and CIP, will conduct the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase for a 2GW offshore wind-powered hydrogen project in the Netherlands.
  • The project includes a 50MWp floating offshore wind farm to power a large-scale electrolyser located in the Maasvlakte section of the Port of Rotterdam.
  • Expected to be operational in 2029, the plant aims to maximize value engineering and deliver a cost-effective solution, contributing to low-carbon energy sources globally.
  • Wood's involvement in this project signifies its commitment to providing low-emissions energy solutions and marks its third collaboration with CIP in the hydrogen sector.
Wood, a UK-based company, has been chosen to carry out the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase for a hydrogen project in the Netherlands in partnership with Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The joint venture, Zeevonk, will combine 2GW of offshore wind capacity with a 50MWp floating offshore wind farm to power a large-scale electrolyser. The onshore electrolyser will be situated in the Maasvlakte area of the Port of Rotterdam. Wood will be responsible for the FEED work over the next ten months and will provide detailed cost estimates for the equipment, procurement, and construction phase in Q2. The hydrogen facility is expected to be operational by 2029 and will have a significant peak consumption capability. Once complete, the produced hydrogen will be transported through pipelines to the local hydrogen grid network in Rotterdam. Wood aims to deliver a design that maximizes value engineering and ensures a reliable and cost-effective solution. This project reinforces Wood's dedication to offering low-carbon energy solutions and supporting the accessibility and scalability of low-emissions energy sources worldwide. It also highlights Wood's third collaboration with CIP in the hydrogen sector.
