The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $62 million funding initiative for 20 projects in 15 states to advance next-generation clean hydrogen technologies. This investment aligns with President Biden's Investing in America agenda and aims to accelerate the development, demonstration, and deployment of innovative hydrogen technologies crucial to the clean energy transition. The selected projects will target key areas such as hydrogen fueling infrastructure, hydrogen-powered port equipment, and efforts to improve the efficiency and equity of hydrogen technology deployment. The funding, part of a broader strategy to enhance America's economic competitiveness, create high-quality jobs, and reduce emissions, supports the U.S. National Clean Hydrogen Strategy and Roadmap. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm highlighted the importance of this investment in strengthening America's leadership in clean energy technologies and promoting economic opportunities. The funding will be distributed across various topics, including hydrogen fueling for vehicles, development of low-cost refueling stations, hydrogen-powered port equipment, permitting, safety, and community engagement for equitable hydrogen technology deployment. A significant portion of the funding is dedicated to ensuring community benefits, in line with the Justice40 initiative. The DOE's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO) will oversee these projects, which are expected to play a vital role in advancing hydrogen technology and supporting the establishment of Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs.
