The 2025 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia will feature the return of the Hydrogen Small Mobility & Engine Technology Association (HySE) team with their upgraded HySE-X2 off-road racer. The vehicle, designed by Overdrive Racing in Belgium, incorporates hydrogen fuel tanks and a supercharged hydrogen internal combustion engine. With a focus on advancing alternative fuels, the HySE-X2 will compete in the Mission 1000 category. The team aims to address technical challenges encountered in the previous year and improve engine performance in high-revolution ranges and fuel consumption. Leading OEM sponsors like Toyota Motor have played a significant role in enhancing the vehicle's capabilities. The participation of the HySE-X2 at the Dakar Rally serves to demonstrate the resilience and adaptability of hydrogen technology under extreme conditions, highlighting its potential for small hydrogen mobility engines. The event, scheduled from January 3-17, 2025, will provide an opportunity for the team to showcase the advancements made in hydrogen-powered off-road racing and compete against other teams running biofuels and biodiesel.
