Innovative Energy Projects Awarded Grants for Sustainable Solutions
Key Ideas
  • OCED awards Constellium $4.1 million to implement a zero-carbon aluminum casting center, reducing carbon emissions by 30% and natural gas consumption by 50%.
  • TDA Research, Inc. receives nearly $5 million to deploy carbon capture technology at Dry Fork Power Station, aiming for safe commercial deployment at coal plants worldwide.
  • Native Renewables Inc. granted almost $400,000 to electrify up to 300 tribal homes with solar PV and battery energy storage systems on Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe reservations.
  • Navajo Power Home awarded nearly $5 million to provide 400 off-grid homes in Navajo Nation with solar PV and battery energy storage systems, aiming for clean energy access and economic resilience.
The OCED has announced the successful completion of several projects receiving grants to address sustainability and energy challenges. Constellium was awarded over $4.1 million to kickstart the Low Carbon SmartMelt Furnace Conversion project. This initiative by Constellium aims to establish a zero-carbon aluminum casting center by installing low-emissions SmartMelt furnaces, potentially operating with clean hydrogen in the future. The project is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by 30% and natural gas consumption by 50%. Another project, led by TDA Research, Inc., received nearly $5 million to implement a carbon capture system at Dry Fork Power Station. The goal is to pave the way for safe commercial deployment of sorbent-based technology in coal plants globally. Furthermore, Native Renewables Inc. was granted close to $400,000 to electrify tribal homes with solar-powered systems on the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe reservations. Finally, the Permanent, High-Quality Clean Energy Access for Rural Indigenous Communities project, led by Navajo Power Home, secured around $5 million to provide solar PV and battery energy storage systems to 400 off-grid homes in the Navajo Nation, aiming to enhance energy access, improve livelihoods, and foster economic resilience in traditionally underserved areas.
