The Mexican Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has decided to double its order of hydrogen-fuelled back-up power solutions from GenCell Energy. This decision follows a previous $4.5 million order placed in December 2023, with the aim to enhance resilience and ensure uninterrupted power distribution during grid outages. The GenCell REX units, accompanied by the GEMS AI-driven energy management software, will be deployed at CFE's substations across Mexico. These units, capable of operating in extreme temperatures and humidity conditions, are expected to extend the back-up duration from 8 to 24 hours, improving the utility's operational reliability. The initiative also focuses on digitization, automation, predictive maintenance, and compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory standards. GenCell's CEO, Rami Reshef, expressed pride in supporting CFE's climate-resilient auxiliary power delivery and emphasized the significance of extending back-up duration to ensure 'always-on' substations. The partnership between GenCell and CFE aims to optimize the use of hydrogen in Mexico's clean energy transition, aligning with the vision of GreenFSG for long-duration clean power delivery. This collaboration signifies a step towards a more sustainable and innovative approach to energy distribution in Mexico.
