The 7th Government – Private Forum on Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN (CEFIA) was co-organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and held in Kobe City, Japan. The Forum aimed to accelerate the development of cleaner energy and decarbonisation technologies in the ASEAN region by fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors. Representatives from 10 ASEAN Member States, private companies, academia, METI, and ACE participated, with additional attendees joining via Zoom Webinar. Hydrogen and ammonia technologies emerged as new flagship projects at the Forum, aligning with the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025. Sessions highlighted progress on existing flagship projects like Renkei, ZEB, SteelEcosol, and future activities planned to support ASEAN. Discussions on public and private finance for cleantech innovation were featured, along with presentations on advanced Japanese technologies including hydrogen, ammonia, next-generation solar cells, and CCUS. The forum stressed the importance of capacity building, regional partnerships, and collaborative efforts to achieve decarbonisation goals. The Forum also included an excursion to the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Kobe Plant and IHI Corporation Aioi Factory, showcasing international liquefied hydrogen supply chains and innovative gas turbines burning liquid ammonia for significant greenhouse gas reduction. The overall sentiment from the Forum was positive, highlighting the commitment to advancing clean energy solutions in the ASEAN region.
