Sinopec Expands Hydrogen Fuel Cell Supply Center in Guangzhou, Boosting Regional Energy Infrastructure
Key Ideas
  • China Petroleum and Chemical Corp (Sinopec) completes an expansion in Guangzhou, raising daily hydrogen output to 15 metric tons, supporting hydrogen industry growth.
  • The upgraded facility in Guangzhou becomes the largest hydrogen fuel cell supply center in South China, contributing to the region's energy supply enhancement.
  • Sinopec's efforts include the construction of 11 hydrogen fuel cell supply centers and 142 refueling stations across China, promoting hydrogen energy adoption.
  • The expansion enables continuous hydrogen supply to cities like Guangzhou, Foshan, and Hong Kong, enhancing the hydrogen infrastructure in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
China Petroleum and Chemical Corp, also known as Sinopec, has recently completed a significant expansion of its hydrogen fuel cell supply center in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, South China. This expansion has increased the daily production capacity of 99.999 percent pure hydrogen to 15 metric tons, with an annual output reaching 5,100 tons. The move solidifies the facility as the largest hydrogen fuel cell supply center in South China, playing a crucial role in bolstering the region's hydrogen energy supply. Sinopec's actions support and accelerate the rapid growth of the hydrogen industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Prior to the expansion, the facility's annual hydrogen production capacity stood at 1,500 tons, highlighting the substantial increase achieved. The upgraded center will now provide a continuous supply of hydrogen to key cities like Guangzhou, Foshan, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, strengthening the hydrogen infrastructure in the area. In addition to the Guangzhou facility, Sinopec has been actively developing its hydrogen energy infrastructure by establishing 11 hydrogen fuel cell supply centers across China and setting up 142 hydrogen refueling stations throughout the country. These efforts aim to integrate hydrogen production and refueling capabilities efficiently, ultimately driving the wider adoption of hydrogen energy and supporting sustainability goals in the region and beyond.
