The Essar Group, an Indian conglomerate, has disclosed its plans for significant investments in green steel and hydrogen projects. With a $4 billion investment in a green steel plant in Ras Al Khair, Saudi Arabia, Essar aims to cater to the local steel demand. Additionally, the conglomerate will dedicate around $3.6 billion to establish a green hydrogen plant in Jamnagar, Gujarat, over the next four years. By focusing on creating 1 GW of hydrogen capacity and producing 1 million tons of transportable green molecules annually, Essar demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable energy initiatives. The company intends to leverage 4.5 GW of renewable energy from Essar Renewables to facilitate the production of hydrogen and oxygen through water molecule splitting. This strategic move aligns with Essar's broader energy transition goals and signifies a shift towards green and environmentally conscious projects. The investments in these green ventures come after Essar's divestment in various sectors to settle a substantial debt, indicating a renewed focus on sustainable development and renewable energy projects in the future.
