  • Energy Minister emphasizes the importance of regional hydrogen infrastructures in meeting climate targets and ensuring the competitiveness of companies.
  • The approval of a nationwide hydrogen core network by the Federal Network Agency is a significant step, but local production capacities are crucial for immediate hydrogen supply needs.
  • The investment aims to develop hydrogen hubs in Baden-Württemberg, promoting the construction of local electrolyzers and supporting the regional expansion of renewable energy plants.
The Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Sector in Baden-Württemberg is launching the 'ELY' funding program with an allocation of 100 million euros to support the local production of renewable hydrogen through water electrolysis. Energy Minister Thekla Walker highlights the importance of green hydrogen in achieving climate protection targets and states the increasing demand for renewable hydrogen. The funding program aims to ensure a comprehensive supply of hydrogen in the region and enhance the competitiveness of local companies. While the approval of a nationwide hydrogen core network is a positive step, the focus remains on building local hydrogen infrastructures to meet immediate supply needs. The Ministry plans to promote the construction of local electrolyzers and hydrogen hubs in alignment with the regional expansion of sustainable energy plants. Applications for funding are open until May 15, 2025, with a maximum funding amount of 10 million euros per project. The funding rate covers up to 45 percent of eligible investment costs and can be increased for small and medium-sized enterprises. The development of these hydrogen hubs is expected to create local and regional hydrogen economies covering the entire value chain from production to utilization.
