In February 2025, the Bezos Earth Fund, Mission Possible Partnership, and RMI gathered in Houston to celebrate the progress of their joint clean industrial hubs project, initiated in 2022 to address the challenge of decarbonizing heavy industry and transport sectors. These sectors, responsible for a significant portion of global greenhouse gas emissions, often find it challenging to electrify due to energy-intensive processes. The project's model, clean industrial hubs, aims to bring together industrial assets, infrastructure, policymakers, and financial institutions to accelerate clean energy projects and enhance community support. Houston was selected for its existing industrial base, skilled workforce, and market-driven approach. The collaborative effort of Mission Possible Partnership and RMI has made Houston a leader in the green industrial economy by integrating subnational policy, finance, infrastructure, and community engagement. Texas, known for its history in oil and gas, is now leading in renewable energy, with Texas expected to produce half of US clean hydrogen by 2050. The focus on hydrogen, carbon, and electrification in Texas Gulf Coast industries aims to reduce costs and emissions, create jobs, introduce new technologies, and improve air quality. The project provides targeted support to various sectors and projects, aiming to accelerate the transition to a sustainable industrial ecosystem.
