The AdvancedH2Valley project in the Loire Valley, France, is a significant initiative aimed at accelerating the deployment of renewable hydrogen by 2025. This project is designed to pave the way for a future large-scale hydrogen economy on the European Atlantic Coastline. Building on the successes of previous hydrogen ecosystems like H2Ouest and VHyGO, AdvancedH2Valley is set to introduce 11.5MW of new production capacities by 2028, producing over 1600t of 100% certified renewable hydrogen annually, aligning with the EU's Renewable Energy Directive. This ambitious project includes the establishment of two new hydrogen refueling stations with a distribution capacity of up to 1.3t/day on the RTE-T network. Additionally, it will see the deployment of the first hydrogen trucks fleet in France, innovative off-road port logistics vehicles, and river ferries powered by renewable hydrogen. The project also aims to create a renewable hydrogen supply chain tailored to meet the specific decarbonization needs of industrial customers. AdvancedH2Valley aspires to be a beacon of innovation for hydrogen valleys, fostering collaborations and synergies with neighboring regions, particularly in the peripherical maritime areas of the Atlantic Arc. By sharing knowledge and best practices, the consortium seeks to enhance the scalability and replicability of the AdvancedH2Valley model, contributing to the future large-scale hydrogen economy in Europe. The project's impact is expected to be substantial, with the direct decarbonization of transport and industrial activities using renewable hydrogen. It is projected that 14.6t of CO2 emissions will be avoided during the initial 2-year operation, with a significant reduction of 2.8Mt per year by 2036. These outcomes highlight the positive implications of AdvancedH2Valley in driving sustainable practices and decarbonization efforts in France and beyond.
