TMB in Barcelona has recently integrated the first fuel cell bus out of a 38-unit order provided by Solaris, consisting of 36 12-meter buses and 2 articulated vehicles. This move deviates from the norm by assigning the new buses to the V19 line instead of the X1 line. With this addition, the total hydrogen vehicles operating within TMB's network will reach 9, including models from CaetanoBus. The procurement, amounting to 1,799,800 euros, is part of the JIVE2 project's initiatives to promote hydrogen as an energy source for public transportation across Europe. TMB's involvement in the JIVE project has significantly contributed to the deployment of 298 hydrogen vehicles and 20 refueling stations in multiple EU countries. This acquisition is TMB's most extensive investment in hydrogen vehicles, financed by the Metropolitan Transport Authority and the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. By the end of 2024, TMB aims to have a fleet of 46 hydrogen buses, alongside 196 electric vehicles, constituting 25% of the total bus fleet, all in line with the zero-emission vehicle objectives. Laia Bonet, the President of TMB, highlighted the organization's pioneering efforts in introducing hydrogen buses in Spain and its unwavering commitment to sustainable transport solutions.
