Global shipping and logistics provider GAC has inaugurated a new office at the Port of Huelva in Spain to bolster its service capabilities for customers in the shipping and energy sectors. The move comes as a strategic enhancement following the establishment of GAC's Algeciras office. The company will offer a range of services in Huelva, including ship agency, bunker fuels, customs clearance, and crew change support. This development aligns with the growing significance of Huelva as a port for the energy sector. The port reported a notable 7.71% increase in throughput in the first quarter of 2024, handling 7.8 million tonnes of goods. Particularly, bulk liquids rose by 9.16%, reinforcing Huelva's position as a vital energy hub. The port's involvement in the Andalusia Green Hydrogen Valley project further highlights its role in sustainable energy initiatives. The project, led by CEPSA, involves constructing two green hydrogen production facilities with a collective electrolysis capacity of 2GW. These facilities are set to produce substantial amounts of green hydrogen, biofuels, and other sustainable fuels, contributing to decarbonization efforts in various sectors. Additionally, the Sustainable Cold Logistics Hub at the port utilizes innovative methods to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, showcasing the port's commitment to sustainability and its pivotal role in Spain's logistics and energy industries.
