Invenergy, a leading clean energy company, has launched its inaugural clean hydrogen project - the Sauk Valley Hydrogen facility in Rock Falls, Illinois. This facility, spread across a 5-acre site, harnesses power from Invenergy's nearby solar plant and Ohmium International's electrolyzer technology to generate up to 40 metric tons of clean hydrogen annually. The site also has the capability to store up to 400 kilograms of hydrogen on-site, providing opportunities for on-site usage and off-site transport. Joel Schroeder, Executive Vice President at Invenergy, expressed pride in pioneering clean hydrogen production and emphasized the significant potential this holds for various industries. Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium, lauded the collaboration and the utilization of cutting-edge electrolyzer technology for sustainable energy production. The initial hydrogen supply from Sauk Valley is currently utilized as a cooling agent at the adjacent Nelson Energy Center. Furthermore, Invenergy has set its sights on supplying hydrogen to 'hard-to-abate' sectors across the country, with the first off-site delivery slated for an Aether Fuels project, facilitated by Certarus. This initiative has garnered praise from Jon Horek, Vice President of Hydrogen at Invenergy, for showcasing their unique market capabilities and strong partnerships. Conor Madigan, CEO of Aether Fuels, commended Invenergy's leadership in clean energy innovation. Sauk Valley Hydrogen represents Invenergy's 22nd clean energy venture in Illinois, underscoring the company's commitment to advancing the state's clean energy landscape through a diverse portfolio encompassing wind, solar, clean hydrogen, natural gas, and advanced energy storage solutions.
