Jakson Green and NTPC's Revolutionary 4G Ethanol Project in Chattisgarh
Key Ideas
  • Jakson Green partners with NTPC to set up a groundbreaking 4G ethanol project in Chattisgarh, incorporating carbon capture and green hydrogen production.
  • The project aims to produce 10 metric tonnes per day of 4G ethanol, contribute to India's ethanol blending target, and expand the capacity to 100–150 metric tonnes per day.
  • Jakson Green is also working on green hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia projects, targeting a combined capacity of 8,500 metric tonnes by 2027, with investments totaling around Rs 700 crore.
  • The renewable energy producer plans to invest Rs 3,500 crore in setting up 4.5 GW of renewable assets and is considering an IPO within the next 24 months.
Jakson Green Pvt., the renewable energy arm of Jakson Group, has partnered with NTPC Ltd. to establish the world's first and largest 4G ethanol project in Chattisgarh. The project, developed by NTPC Netra, will focus on producing 4G ethanol through a fermentation process using green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide. This innovative approach involves the utilization of transformative technologies from Lanzatech and Veolia. The plant is expected to initially produce 10 metric tonnes per day of 4G ethanol, which can be used as a feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel. The project also aims to capture 25 tonnes of carbon dioxide and produce 3 tonnes of hydrogen daily from a 7.5 MW electrolyser. The pilot project's cost is estimated to be between Rs 260-300 crore, with plans to scale up to 100–150 metric tonnes per day in the future. Additionally, Jakson Green is working on green hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia projects in collaboration with NTPC to achieve a combined capacity of 8,500 metric tonnes by 2027 with an investment of approximately Rs 700 crore. The company also intends to invest Rs 3,500 crore in setting up 4.5 GW of renewable energy assets and is exploring the possibility of an IPO within the next 24 months.
