Kerala's 'Kerala Green Hydrogen Valley' initiative has garnered international recognition at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The project, led by the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT), aims to establish a fully integrated hydrogen ecosystem to address climate challenges and drive sustainable economic growth. The initiative showcases Kerala as a frontrunner in green hydrogen development, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions in critical sectors like transportation. Green hydrogen, produced through water electrolysis using renewable energy sources, is seen as a game-changer for decarbonizing industries. Kerala's efforts are in line with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, with ambitious goals to scale up green hydrogen adoption in the state. Key projects include introducing hydrogen-powered public transport, freight trucks, and waterway innovations, along with developing infrastructure like hydrogen refuelling stations and renewable energy-powered production facilities. By focusing on hydrogen adoption in various sectors, Kerala aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, creating jobs and fostering innovation in the process.
