Schaeffler and Jiading District Collaborate to Build Hydrogen Ecosystem
Key Ideas
  • Schaeffler and Jiading District are partnering to establish a hydrogen energy technology company in Anting Town to build a modern industrial system.
  • The collaboration aims to promote innovation, with Schaeffler focusing on hydrogen technology and advancing the hydrogen industry through equipment manufacturing.
  • Shanghai's first source-grid-load-storage integrated zero-carbon hydrogen storage project was launched at the Jiading Hydrogen Port, with Schaeffler contributing PEM water electrolysis solutions for hydrogen production.
  • Jiading is a key region in China for hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles, hosting numerous domestic and foreign enterprises in the industry, including the Jiading Hydrogen Port with significant investments and a high number of fuel cell vehicles.
Schaeffler, a German motion technology company, has initiated a hydrogen project in partnership with Shanghai's Jiading District to establish a hydrogen energy technology company in Anting Town. This collaboration aims to leverage the technological and resource strengths of both parties to develop a modern industrial system. Lu Fangzhou, the Party secretary of Jiading, expressed anticipation for the partnership to drive innovation with a focus on Schaeffler as the core, fostering a hydrogen energy ecosystem through the Jiading Hydrogen Port. The decision by Schaeffler to set up operations in Jiading reflects its confidence in the district's potential. The new company will capitalize on Schaeffler's expertise in hydrogen technology to enhance research and development capabilities, localize operations, and propel the hydrogen industry forward through advanced equipment manufacturing. Notably, Schaeffler actively participated in Shanghai's first zero-carbon hydrogen storage project at the Jiading Hydrogen Port, providing PEM water electrolysis solutions for hydrogen production. Jiading has positioned itself as a frontrunner in China's hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle industry, hosting a significant number of domestic fuel cell system integration and parts companies. The Jiading Hydrogen Port, serving as China's inaugural hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle park, houses over 60 renowned domestic and international enterprises, with substantial investments exceeding 10 billion yuan. Additionally, Jiading has approved 3,450 fuel cell vehicles for demonstration operations in Shanghai, representing a significant portion of the city's total. The collaborative efforts between Schaeffler and Jiading District are poised to drive further advancements in hydrogen technology and strengthen the hydrogen ecosystem in the region.
