Renewable natural gas (RNG) firm Waga Energy has secured a substantial $107.5 million corporate syndicated loan from a consortium of five banking groups. The loan will be used to finance projects contributing to climate change mitigation, in line with the European green taxonomy, and to accelerate Waga Energy's international development, particularly in the USA. Waga Energy formed a partnership with OCI Global to produce biomethane at the Beaumont, Texas landfill site, aiming to support green methanol production. The project involves capturing gases emitted from organic waste decomposition, converting them into biomethane, and injecting them into the local gas network. This initiative is set to prevent the emission of 27,440 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year, equivalent to emissions from 2.8 million gallons of gasoline annually, according to EPA standards. Leaders from both companies expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the potential for decarbonization, low carbon solutions, and the innovative business model introduced. The project is expected to be operational by 2025, providing significant environmental benefits and contributing to sustainability efforts.
