Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has struck a 15-year power purchase agreement with Google in the Netherlands for 250MW of wind power from the Zeevonk project. The Zeevonk project, a joint venture between Vattenfall and CIP, incorporates offshore wind, solar energy, and green hydrogen production. Scheduled to be operational by 2029, Zeevonk features a 2GW offshore wind farm and a 50MW floating offshore solar farm off the Dutch coast. The project will not only supply power but also contribute to green hydrogen production through a large-scale electrolyser plant in Rotterdam. This initiative aligns with a broader strategy to implement sustainable energy solutions. Google sees this partnership as a significant milestone towards their ambition of operating on 24/7 Carbon Free Energy (CFE) globally by 2030. The Energy Transition Fund I of CIP, claimed to be the world's largest green hydrogen fund, is developing around 6.5GW of electrolyser capacity globally. The agreement emphasizes collaboration to enable continuous carbon-free energy for various electricity uses, including Google's operations and hydrogen production. This collaboration showcases the potential of offshore wind, power-to-X technologies, and the rising demand for renewable power by data centers. CIP's partnership with Google is seen as crucial for achieving decarbonization goals and driving local growth, job creation, and clean energy delivery.
